Dear friends of the National Italian American Foundation,
I am very pleased to participate in the 47th Gala Awards of NIAF just a few days after my appointment as Prime Minister of Italy.
I feel the great honour and responsibility to be the first woman to lead Italy. In my task I will follow the footsteps of many great Italian women who paved the way for me and for the generations to come.
Italy, whose ancient roots and unique beauty are recognized throughout the world, is a result of the ingenuity of its people, both here and abroad. Italy, a G7 Country, is also home to an incredible array of small and medium size businesses, internationally recognized scientific and academic institutions and a growing innovation hub. Only by working together can we succeed in the face of the many challenges ahead of us.
Italians who crossed the Atlantic in the last two centuries highly contributed to the development, prosperity and strength of the US, as President Biden recognized in his Columbus Day Proclamation. They have worked every day to build a bridge between America and Italy: made of common values – freedom, equality and democracy – an unshakable alliance, a strategic partnership and a true and deep friendship. You are great ambassadors for our Country. We count on your friendship and knowledge to help us foster closer ties in the years to come.
Grazie! For cherishing your Italian heritage and carrying it with you with such pride! I assure you that this Government will do its utmost to make the relationship with the United States grow even stronger.
Long live America, viva l’Italia!
