Giorgia ‘Meloni has shown Germany that a change of course in asylum matters is possible’. That is, ”unlike the government of Olaf Scholz, she has been able to manage the migration crisis”.
This was written by the German newspaper Bild, which applauds the work of the Meloni government on immigration, because the Prime Minister has ‘made the issue a top priority from the very beginning’ of her mandate.
The Bild continues ”even if Italy, with its endless coastline, and Germany, with its almost four thousand kilometres of land borders, are only partially comparable, Meloni’s success shows that national governments are not powerless when it comes to how many people from other cultures arrive in the country”.
The agreement with Tunisia was a success: ”the key to reducing the flow of migrants from North Africa was an agreement with Tunisia that Meloni negotiated in the summer of 2023 together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the then Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte”. In this case, writes the German newspaper, there was ”only one goal: to stop human traffickers!”.
