During an interview on War Room with Steve Bannon, George Simion — leader of Romania’s nationalist AUR movement and candidate in the upcoming presidential elections — publicly denounced the absence of democracy in Romania. Simion explained that Georgescu, the movement’s founder and previous candidate, had won the election fairly but was removed through a maneuver orchestrated by the Romanian deep state and the European elites.
Arrested without clear charges, dragged from his car, and treated like a criminal. «They didn’t like his face», said Simion, referring to the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels and international pressure.
For Simion, his candidacy represents the continuation of that battle: to return to the Romanian people their right to choose. The context he describes is one of a manipulated system, with the judiciary and media controlled by a shadowy network of power. «We don’t have free elections, it’s against human nature, against the will of the people». At the core of his platform: defending sovereignty, preserving Christian identity, and rejecting the federalist project of a European super-state.
During the interview, Simion explained how the structures of the old Securitate were never dismantled. After the 1989 revolution, he said, they rebranded themselves under new acronyms and continued to dominate the country. «During those days, they spoke of terrorists in the streets. People armed themselves and shot at each other. All orchestrated». Today, anyone who questions the system is labeled an extremist. It’s the same script used against Trump, Bannon noted.
Simion also denounced external pressure on the judiciary. He claimed that Emmanuel Macron had sent the French ambassador to meet with the president of the Constitutional Court to influence judicial decisions. «We are not a colony, Macron is not our emperor», he said. He didn’t spare the United States either, accusing the current U.S. ambassador in Bucharest of backing a globalist agenda and obstructing the nationalist movement.
Simion also presented the MEGA project — «Make Europe Great Again» — aimed at building a network of nationalist forces across the 27 EU countries. He cited Le Pen, Farage, Abascal, and Meloni. The mention of the Italian Prime Minister sparked a brief debate with Bannon, who criticized some of her positions. Simion promptly defended her: «She puts Italy first».
His stated goal is to win in Romania and trigger a domino effect across Europe. But he warns of a real risk of fraud and external pressure. Hence the appeal to the United States and to the War Room audience: «Everyone knows you in Romania: Steve Bannon, Jack Posobiec, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones. Help us amplify the message». He also called on Romanians living in the U.S. to mobilize: «Vote from May 2 to 4. Make your voices heard».
If elected, his priorities are clear: reinstate Georgescu, stop military aid to Ukraine, and cut ties with Brussels. «I fear only God», he declared. No ambiguity, no compromise.
Bannon closed the interview by calling him «a patriot», promising to follow the campaign day by day and stressing that the Romanian fight is not a local issue, but a crucial moment for the future of Europe.
